Every child has potential.
Not every child gets the chance.
At IL Community, we see the potential in every young person and work to change futures by providing free weekly tutoring and mentorship for students in disadvantaged communities across the Forth Valley region, helping them build confidence, improve academic outcomes, and access greater opportunities in education and beyond.
Tutoring and Mentoring for Young People in Forth Valley
Across Forth Valley, many young people have the ability to succeed but don’t receive the support needed to reach their full potential. High-quality tutoring and mentoring can make a meaningful difference, particularly for those from disadvantaged backgrounds, yet access to this support is often limited.
Without the right guidance, students can fall behind and begin to lose confidence in their abilities. IL Community works with these young people by providing structured tutoring and mentoring that helps them stay on track, strengthen their learning, and move forward with confidence.
Education shapes future opportunities, from further study to employment and overall well-being. While schools provide vital support, some students need more individual attention than is always available.
We deliver weekly small group sessions focused on both academic progress and personal development. Students receive support in key subjects such as maths, alongside mentoring that builds confidence, resilience, and a more positive attitude to learning.
Many of our tutors are university students, which allows them to connect naturally with the young people they support. Being closer in age helps build trust and relatability, while also giving students a clear and realistic view of what their future could look like.
Through these relationships, students begin to see that further education and new opportunities are within reach.
Our Tutoring and Mentoring Programme
The Impact on Young People
Students not only improve academically but also grow in confidence and engagement. They begin to believe in their ability and take a more active role in their learning.
Working with university tutors helps make future pathways feel real and achievable. Students can relate to their experiences and see a clearer connection between their efforts now and the opportunities ahead.
The Impact on Communities
When young people are supported to succeed, the benefits extend beyond the individual and into the wider community. Stronger educational outcomes help build confidence, create opportunity, and support a more resilient local workforce.
This lasting impact strengthens communities across Forth Valley, creating positive change that continues to grow over time.
